When we were young we are sent off to school to learn about math, English, History, and Science. For most of us, the learning stops after college or high school. I constantly hear many of my friends and acquaintances say to me, “I am just waiting for the right opportunity to come along.” They wait and wait and wait, but nothing seems to come. When we were in school, and wanted to learn about a subject, we picked up books and listen to our teachers. We read about the subjects and information that we wanted to learn about. After college, for most of us, this all ends. Through all the schooling that we go through, there are no classes about life. No how to be a good person 101. No how to have a good marriage 101 or how to make money 101. In our jobs, when we want to learn something most of the time, we follow and learn from someone that knows how to do it.
Most people don’t think this way when it comes to life experience. We don’t talk to the old couple that has been married for 60 years about a good marriage. We don’t talk to people that have raised their children in a happy environment how to be a good parent. We don’t talk to the people that are wealthy about how to become rich. Instead, we listen to people that are in the same situation or worse ourselves. We can’t understand why life never works are way.
This is a very simple concept. If you want to be rich, study the rich. If you want to be a good parent, study the couples that are excellent parents. If you want to be healthy, study healthy people. We live our lives trying not to be different. We do not want to stick out in the crowd. So we follow what is normal. I am here to tell you, if you want to be normal, study the normal people. If you want to be exceptional, study the exceptional people.
